Nonwovens for High-Performance Applications, Cannes, France, 5-6 March 2014

Conference Programme

5 March 2014, 09.00 – 17.00

Session One:  Markets and Opportunities for High-Performance Nonwovens

Presentation picks out high-performance at INDEX14

Adrian Wilson presented a preview of the forthcoming INDEX14 exhibition from the point of view of the visitor looking for high-tech and high-functionality developments.

Technical Textiles International magazine has a free preview of INDEX14 which can be downloaded here.

New Disruptive Processes and Technologies session

The conference included a session on New Disruptive Processes and Technologies, with a strong set of talks covering technologies with the potential to change the face of the industry through the use of new manufacturing and finishing techniques, including nanotechnologies.

The session featured presentations on developments in nanolayers, nanocoatings, electrically conductive nonwovens, the manufacture of advanced filtration materials and more - please see Programme for details.

Why a symposium on High-performance Applications of Nonwovens?

  • Commodity nonwovens are an established technology, with increasing competition from low-cost producers
  • The use of nonwovens for high-performance applications is a growing area and one with high returns
  • Companies are restricted from growing or even entering these markets because they lack the necessary skills to develop new markets and new manufacturing techniques

Conference highlights

The conference presented numerous case studies including:

Transforming standard nonwovens materials into technical ones: Marc Levillain of JX Nippon ANCI SAS will describe the development of cross-laminated nonwovens to produce ultra light-weight, strong and yet porous materials, showing how they are made, what they are capable of, and how they are being used to make high returns.

Who attended

Participants included raw materials/chemical suppliers, machinery manufacturers, nonwovens manufacturers, finishers including coaters and laminators, OEMs, end-users and suppliers to end-user markets.
